Now, the Sloatsburg resident is getting his chance -- and bringing along his other Rockland lawyer friends for the ride.

"Puppets," marketed under "Justice For All Products," is a zany cross-section between reality and fantasy where puppets and humans live together. The story centers on a narcissistic “TV Star” puppet who begrudgingly seeks marriage counseling therapy from an equally strange psychiatrist. The twist is that the puppet couple who star in the film hate each other but are controlled by a husband-and-wife who are soulmates.

The movie, some of which was filmed at the Louis Kurtz Civic Center in Spring Valley, is being shown at the Hoboken International Film Festival (HIFF) at 10 p.m. Saturday, May 20 at The Elks Club in Middletown.

Weissmann is the screenwriter with fellow Rocklands (and law professionals) Kim Sofia, Tina Ramos and Judge Scott Ugell as his stars. Also in the film: Ken Del Vecchio, another lawyer and HIFF founder. It is produced by and features Orange County Attorney Ken Del Vecchio.

This is Weissmann's first filmed pilot but by no means his last. The trial lawyer, in practice for 30 years, is currently in pre-production for a short film called "Funeral Awakening."

The former Senior ADA and public defender said he's in "Lawyers Anonymous." "It's a 12-step program to leave law,"  he joked.

"I've chosen screenwriting as my next job."
