Clare Sheridan

Community Advisor

Clare has been a resident of Tappan, NY since 2004 after relocating with her husband and two daughters from Manhattan. She is an active volunteer at The Historical Society of Rockland County, serving as interim Executive Director in 2010, and then President 2011 – 2013. Currently, she produces and moderates the Society’s monthly radio broadcast, “Crossroads of Rockland History” on WRCR, 1700AM and prepares the history column “This Week in Rockland” appearing in The Rockland Review. In her role as the co-chair of the Preservation Committee of The Historical Society of Rockland County, Clare is active in historic preservation efforts throughout the county. Clare is a member of Orangetown history organizations including the Orangetown Historical Museum, the Tappantown Historical Society and the Piermont Historical Society. In 2011, Clare received the Rockland County Woman of Achievement Award from the American Association of University Women (AAUW, Rockland Chapter). Prior to her history related work here in Rockland County, Clare spent 17 years at Sotheby’s, as SVP, Business Director, where she combined her training as an art historian and her business acumen. In this role, Clare managed departments in multiple and varied collecting categories, and traveled extensively. She especially enjoyed working on such interesting projects as the Sale of the Collections of Andy Warhol, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and The Duke and Duchess of Windsor.
